Yes. I wore my sunglasses at night. So I could...so I could....feel fabulous rocking KayTran Eyewear at their launch at Pink Eye Optical in Toronto this past Thursday evening.

At first, I thought...hmmm another line of eyewear...how will it shock, rock n' knock me off my feet? Well. It did. All of the above.

Dubbed as offering "a different fit in eyewear", KayTran Eyewear offers customers an array of designs, fits and styles and you are guaranteed to find a pair perfect for you. Trust...coming from a VERY picky eyewear-wearer....I can honestly say I felt like a kid in a candy store trying on the bevy of styles during the party that I almost forgot to stuff my face with a HOMEMADE red velvet cupcake (only to realize each cupcake had tiny handmade white chocolate sunnies sitting atop).

The lines designer, Kathy Tran (who rocked unreal red jeans), lives and breaths by her mantra: “We don’t buy jeans or clothes that don’t fit, so why should we settle for poor-fitting eyewear? Finding eyewear that doesn’t slide down your nose or sit on your cheeks shouldn’t be so impossible!”

Launched in January of 2012, KayTran Eyewear will be on everyone's noses soon enough....

I love mugs.

I am what you would call, a brunch-aholic. Each weekend, my friends/family and I try to discover or enjoy a different brunch place throughout the city when the typical bagel n' lox combo just doesn't cut it.

This past weekend, I pulled a double-date aka had brunch two days in a row at the same place. What? You've done it before...

School is located in the heart of Liberty Village, and although not my #1 neighbourhood in Toronto (can feel a bit touristy and forced at times) the resto-space is cozy, inviting and carries with it a very New York meets Boston feel. I dig it.

Although having been a go-to Toronto haunt for some 3 years now, I had not yet made my way to School, and so thought it to be the most opportune time to head on over for their infamous peanut butter banana smoothie (which they serve in shot glasses alongside fresh pastries and muffins to waiting customers in line) and their eggs benni....

Over the course of the last 2 days, needless to say we ordered the entire menu...well, almost. Boys and girls, the moral of today's lesson is...do NOT skip school. Go. It will benefit your future and the way you look at brunch all together...bonus marks? They are open for night school and and serve a mouth-watering dinner menu as well. Check em' out.

Burrata is the love child of bocconcini (soft Italian mozzarella) and a creamier cheese that fills the outer shell. With its semi-creamy appearance, and melt-in-your-mouth texture, burrata is the perfect appetizer or light lunch.

Best served with a thick Italian balsamic vinaigrette and sliced avocado. Mmmmmm.....

You can find it at speciality food stores or sometimes in the dairy section at your grocer.

Today, I spent most of the sunny afternoon on this gorgeous late Autumn day...eating. Obviously. For those who know me, I am a woman of epicurean needs, one who would rather a bouquet of good wines and balsamic vinegars rather than flowers (Editors note boys: flowers are still totally acceptable and will provide you with the inevitable "awwwww!!").

I went down to the west end, which is home to the Cheese Boutique, and for those urbanites, yes, it used to be a mom and pop shop on Bloor Street and is now the size of a barn. From its humble beginnings having sprung up on the 416 radar in 1970, Cheese Boutique is now a staple on any epicurean fan's to-go-to list.

While purchasing the cheeses at the gargantuan cheese counter, I met Marta, one of the specialists. Marta (aka my given name to her shall forever be Marta Stewart of Cheese) will forever be known to me as the women who will make me fat due to the amount of cheese I consumed in both samples and my take-home parcels. She helped me choose a number of cheeses to go with certain wines, nuts, dried fruit, and made sure I could create the perfect cheese platter.

The owner's son (as it is a family owned operation) was awesome, and not just for the fact that he made sure someone brought me over a complimentary espresso (which at the time I most definitely needed as I was running on very little sleep). The whole experience is truly something; it is run seamlessly, and the employees all know every inch and nook of the space, which really says a lot considering Noah and his ark could have fit.

I may or may not have spent what I could have spent on a wicked pair of shoes...but I walked away with a basket full of goodies to make any mouth water.

With that I say...eat, drink, and be cheesy!

CONSONANT FLAGSHIP LAUNCH TORONTO

Earlier this month, Consonant Body launched their Toronto flagship store on Yonge St. Located at the epicenter of Yuppydom and "Young and Eligible" (derived from the main intersection nearby, Yonge and Eglinton), Consonant's boutique boasted an array of all-natural skincare products. I was able to meet with marketing darling Kristina Breckon who posed for a photo almost breaking my camera with her cuteness (seriously, she's a doll).

All I wanted to do was jump on one of the vespas and ride away with it with some hunky moto-dude behind me....Well, I got halfway....plus Kelly Cutrone was totally there and I was totally like "I'd be happy if she came on my bike too and road off into the PR sunset with me"

Unlike the first photo, my new calfskin leopard chain/leather purse is not as large, but the Badgley Mischka number I picked up is a score in itself...buttery leather and the updated leopard pattern were enough to scream murder and run.

From out of the depths of my closet came a smart cape like the one above, from one of my favorite vintage shops, "I Miss You". It is reversible, with a rich camel on one side, and a Sherlock Holmes-esque pattern on the other. The cut outs for the hands are what had me at "hello".

Also purchased a pair of sky-high pony hair leopard heels much like the ones above (left). Too high, but too amazing. With jeans a white t-shirt?! Yes please.

The last thing on my mind last weekend, while walking throughout downtown, was purchasing a lipstick...no, a PLUM lipstick. I became instantly enamored by MAC's Lustre lipshade in "Plumful". It's perfect for day (dabbing the color only slightly to create a sensual yet clean lip) and even more perfect for evening, with the addition of a little more coverage. The lipstick has a hint of vanilla in its scent, a pleasant surprise that I had not expected. The creaminess as well had me at hello, for it doesn't crack or dry out my lips throughout wear. For a girl like myself who doesn't really wear a lot of makeup (think, creamy blush, mascara, lip balm) this is the perfect addition to my kit.

This past weekend I was in Boston. The weather was a balmy and perfect 18 degrees, with the sun shining as though Fall forgot to come. Harvard Square was alive with students reminiscent of scenes from Love Story and Dead Poets Society with everyone in their cable knit sweaters and maroon colored scarves. From the tree-lined streets of Cambridge to the shore lines near Boston Proper, I became fully enamored with the places I visited and have added Boston to my list of loves. I will continue my affair with the city for as long as possible.

On Sunday, I attended a conference and in the evening, was able to speak at a dinner of 300+ patrons of an organization for which I am greatly affiliated with, be it CAMERA, an organization fostering positive outlets for those who strive for fighting bias in the media that targets certain arenas of affairs in Israel. I was honored to speak, however even more honored to hear the great Alan Dershowitz address the crowd earlier in the day to over 800 of us who watched and listened intently at Boston University's main campus.

By far one of my favorite vintage boutiques in Toronto; At Bungalow you can find all your vintage frocks while shopping for retro furniture to feed your appetite for days of yore visa vie Mad Men scene decor.

Although the store is on the pricier side of vintage, it is nonetheless a landmark in Toronto's Kensington Market and a great stop on the way to shaking up your new lofty space as they receive new shipments so often you'd think it was illegal.

By far, one of my favorite films (along with most of Hugh's other cinematic teen classics), The Breakfast Club is a movie that each and everyone who went through the halls of high school can resonate with. Although Ally Sheedy's character loses points for being "made over" I still can't help but love her new look marking the moment when Emilio Estevez' "jock" character falls for the quirky "basket case". And the end scene when Judd Nelson's character gives Molly Ringwald his earring?!

After reading up on Glenn O'Brien, formerly a member of Andy Warhol's "The Factory" in his earlier formative years, I became increasingly interested in the life of O'Brien, now a world renowned editor, publisher, and writer (known as "The Style Guy" for GQ Magazine) along with his wife Gina Nanni who is a PR exec and son Oscar, a young and aspiring artist not even having reached his teens.

The Selby captures a glimpse into the family's Conneticut estate, in all its quirky sixtiesdom glory.

At work the other day, one of my co-workers put the song "Home" on by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. I instantly fell in love all over again with the eclectic musings of the LA-based collective, especially vocalist (and gf of lead vocalist, Alex Ebert) Jade Castrinos's husky and voice, reminiscent of another decade. The group's dynamic seems to be as smooth as liquid honey, and led by Ebert, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros seems to be going nowhere fast.

Ps - Jade recently chopped off her Woodstock-esque locks, and with her now Jean Seberg crop, she is even more adorable.

SIMPLE SUNDAY DINNER

Last night I opted for a light and summery meal to ease the pain that the cold months are most definately on their way in..(however, I do love Fall!). The most simplistic of dinners of often the best, and I love the summery colours of the tuna and grilled vegetables!

Instructions:

1) I first covered 2 steaks of sushi-grade tuna in Japanese sesame seeds, followed by lightly spraying my grill to make sure there would be no sticking.

2) I then grilled the two steaks of fresh tuna, and seared them on either side for only a few minutes on each to ensure a rare and raw center.

3) I added fresh asparagus to the grill and lightly spiced them with pepper and salt and a squirt of lemon juice.

4) I made a wonderful tartar sauce (something fatty to add to the tuna, in lue of a mango salsa) - I started off with mixing 2 spoonfulls of mayo, mixing it with some ketchup and a tablespoon of relish. After a few squirts of fresh lemon juice and pepper, you have a wonderful pinkish tartar sauce to go with the tuna!

I recently picked up JACOB'S newest beauty product; lipgloss. I purchased the gloss in Cita, a fierce raspberry , and Donna, a light coral hue. The third colour, Bella was also pretty but too light for my skin tone. I love the non-sticky texture and sleak n' chic packaging. They are my new go-to product for a night out (and will soon become staples in my daytime tool kit as well).

The second picture is of my birthday treats I brought home from Montreal for my weekend in Toronto....each year I order my birthday goods from them.

They sell the most amazing (and imported) French macaron from Paris. My favorite are the vanilla bean, after being chilled in the fridge.

PEACH PLUM & BLUEBERRY CRUMBLE

Fall means comfort food to me...chilled pumpkin pie, baked apple with granola, spiced lattes, and of course, peach and berry cobblers (or crumbles). Here is my favorite recipe for peach, plum and blueberry crumble. I usually eyemark and just go bake the crumble by my own memory, however this easy-to-follow recipe is a great alternative. I have since stopped using brown sugar, as I find it just adds too much sugary flavour that you don't need it as the fruit is where you get the natural sweetness. I add the plums for an extra tart flavour.

The following recipe is that of my role model and goddess of the kitchen, Ina Garten from the Food Network. It is very similar to the one you see above in the photo's.

For the fruit:

2 pounds firm, ripe peaches (6 to 8 peaches)
2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup fresh blueberries (1/2 pint)

For the crumble:

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup light brown sugar, lightly packed
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 pound (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, diced

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Immerse the peaches in boiling water for 30 seconds to 1 minute, until their skins peel off easily. Place them immediately in cold water. Peel the peaches, slice them into thick wedges, and place them in a large bowl. Add the lemon zest, lemon juice, granulated sugar, and flour. Toss well. Gently mix in the blueberries. Allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes. Spoon the mixture into ramekins or custard cups.
For the topping, combine the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and the butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Mix on low speed until the butter is the size of peas. Rub the mixture with your fingertips until it's in big crumbles, then sprinkle evenly over the fruit. Place the ramekins on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the tops are browned and crisp and the juices are bubbly. Serve warm or at room temperature.
If you want to make these early, store the unbaked crumbles in the refrigerator and bake before dinner.

RIPPED DENIM AND COTTON CANDY

Last week was the closing night for the Toronto Exhibition Place. Cassie and I made our way down to the carnival by the water and ate cotton candy, drank iced lemonade, rode the roller coaster as well as the Ferris Wheel, and played the carni games (Cass even won herself a prize). We felt like we were in the Notebook. It was the perfect way to spend girls night.

I wanted to be comfortable, so I opted for a very un-ladylike outfit, yet it was super comfy and great for riding the fast coaster!

No evening at the fair would be complete without riding the merry-go-round...

She is, however, wonderfully and perfectly beautiful (I rarely call women beautiful...as you must REALLY have that somethin' somethin' to acquire said label). Once the girfriend of that nice Jewish boy achem slash UK-based record producer Mark Ronson, Lowe is currently modeling and amping up her appearances as that "random gorgeous British girl with a unique pension for blowing your mind with her raven hair and pouty lips" (not really a quote...jut my thought).

During TIFF it's hard to find time to oneself...with all the gift lounges, interviews, deadlines, meet n' greets, etc...the list goes on. My friend Rebecca is a hard working PR hustler in Toronto and we share more in common than shoes, as we have been friends for a long time and have watch one another grow. This is just a shout out to one of the most hard working bad-ass women I know.

Plus, her style is just as unique and wonderful as her look. I like to think we inspire one another in what we wear..I would just kill for her bangs! They are so chic.

AN EDUCATION

Although I am more of an old-school movie buff (think, Roman Holiday, A Bout De Souffle, Joules et Jim, Breakfast at Tiffanys...and the list goes on), one of my favorite new-wave indie films come in the form of An Education, starring Carey Mulligan, Olivia Williams, and Peter Sarsgaard.

The coming-of-age drama is the perfect way to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon, or like me, a 4 hour train ride between Montreal & Toronto.

Aside from the film being excellent on its own, the fashion is ridiculously on cue for the times (Britain in the swingin' sixties) as it is totally on par with the costumes on Mad Men which I adore for their accurate portrayal of sixties fashions. My grandmother recently gave me her amazing collection of pillbox hats and hand made purses. I will upload photo's soon.

I just purchased this jacket from H&M (and also in black). I opted to not purchase the pants, as I already own a black pair by Vince in the same style, and wasn't too sure about pulling off the set together unlike Stephanie from 5 Inch & Up. Both her looks are pulled off even more with her Mui Mui mary-janes and Alexander Wang heels.

I did not purchase the black and white dress in the same print, as I went with the same dress in a bold leopord print.

I think H&M did a fabulous job with their most recent printed collection...I was surprised to find out it was H&M in the first place!

I love my H&M party dress that I purchased this past winter. No one ever guesses H&M and upon hearing where it's from they usually say, "NO WAY!!" I usually pair it with an amazing studded clutch I picked up for my birthday last November (see above).

Cannot wait to go apple picking...it is the one tradition that we do as a family without fail every year, since I was two years old. I love eating the apples as we walk up and down the aisles of trees, and then the purchasing of apple cider and pumpkin pie. Back in June I was invited to attend Che Bella Spa's launch of Red Door; After Hours Foot Massage in their Eglinton location via Rock it Promotions. In May, I attended the Mount Sinai Soiree Gala for Young Professionals. In 1960, my grandmother Vera (above left) attended the same gala, however she doned one-of-a-kind couture, while I opted for off-the-rack at Holt Renfrew.

I love how there are still galas and balls today, especially those that are for a good cause.

For the last few months, myself, as well as a number of other young and philanthropic individuals in the community worked together with Daniel Warner (a good friend of mine) to strive towards making this years Third Annual Pitch for Israel the best yet. Money was raised over the summer months for the 2 weekends in August that our baseball tournament was held. On August 22nd and 29th young leaders in the community came out to both the Powerade Centre and Camp Robin Hood to play ball for a good cause. This year we went with One Family Fund, a cause that supports children in Israel affected by terrorism.

Was watching Some Kind o Wonderful earlier today...you know the quintessential 80's teen heart-throb movie about a girl who likes boy, who likes other girl, who isn't aware that his best friend, (who is a girl) likes him, and in the end past the "Amanda's no minor leaguer who'll be swept off her feet by your amateur lips", he get's what he's really wanted all along...Marie Stuart Masterson in all her tomboyish glory. I love the fashion from this film all the way from Watts' red leather frindge gloves to her very in vogue cropped white t's and simple earrings. Everything she wore in this film is new again...as seen in my below image I created on my Polyvore account. Boredom took it's tole this rainy Labor Day!!
